How do you believe the government should support renewable energy?

Do you think they should just play cheerleader?
or
Do you think they should provide economic incentives for people to invest?
The reason I ask is republicans are blocking all recent attempts to provide economic incentive for wind and solar production while claiming they support these technologies.

Of course they should - that’s a no-brainer.
When are we going to have an administration that is looking forward? Who sets the tone? Who paves the way for innovation and puts America back in the LEADING position which we have not been in since we landed on the moon via John F. Kennedy?
Alternative Energy IS COMING.
Whether or not America is leading the pack or following along like a sniveling dingo remains to be seen.

Just play cheerleader. For one, the price of fuel is its own incentive. Another, there is no reason to reward people for doing what they should be doing anyway.
If gas were cheap, the government would be paying people to use a more expensive alternative. While I am a pretty big environmentalist, it doesn’t make sense to waste government revenues by paying people to do the right thing. People should conserve whether there’s a glaring financial reason to do so or not.

i suggest to provide economic incentives for people to invest and to also use our oil resources hear at home untill the new technologies kick in thus making our country a more enviromentally safe country

Governments, ours especially, should not be in the business of trying to persuade the market to do ANYTHING.
Think about it, do you want the person at DMV making a stock pick for you?
The free market may not always get it right, but government always gets it wrong.

By supporting the depletion of fossil fuels, use as much as we can find and burn up. When this plentiful source of fuel is used up then and only then will alternative fuels will become viable and economical.
If you are not talking about Nuclear power plants SHUT UP. The green people have no concern for anything but socialist control of everything. Nothing to do with the planet, control!

Thats because the Republicans are snakes and you can’t believe a word they say. The only people they answer to are the oil companies.
The government has to do more than just play cheerleader- that is not enough. If you look at what Germany has done, they have given economic incentives to businesses that install solar panels. Therefore many commercial properties have them, thus greatly reducing Germany’s demand for energy. There needs to be the same kind of incentives in the U.S. First, there needs to be incentives given to companies that produce solar panels, to bring down the cost. If the government basically gives away land (in the form of leases) to the oil companies so they can drill for oil, then why can’t Uncle Sam do the same for Solar and wind?
In order to have a significant number of people install solar on their homes, you need tax credits. But of course Bush opposed all those.
