If handled correctly, renewables are great for the environment. What really needs to be done is reduce pollution. Hydro, geothermal, wind and solar do not produce pollution as such but manufacturing some of the equipment used, building the facilities and other associated upfront items do. Biomass also produces pollution, sometimes more than equivalent hydrocarbon.
