I also need to know why and I need a fact that doesn’t nessessarily but probably supports your answer from an encyclopedia, a newspaper, a book, a magazine, and an internet site. I already have a fact from a book, but nothing else. Thanks for your help!

It’s as simple as increasing the effeciency of our already existing capability of harnessing solar energy. Not just from the sun but from any light source. Dependency on oil is a political problem..it has never been a problem of technilogical ability. Look to where the funding comes from for things like this.

Stored hydrogen gas made out of water by electrolysis. The needed energy to produce it, comes from the sun.

and links appears to contain some good information. There is a lot of investment taking place in wind, solar and biomass and it is likely that a multipronged attack will be needed. Hydrogen may well become important but is very expensive to produce by electrolysis. It is likely that in the foreseeable future hydrogen will be produced from fossil fuels and the CO2 produced will be sequestered underground. There are many different approaches being taken in the development of biofuels for the transportation sector.
